The DC Anti-Violence Project is guided in its mission and through its initiatives by a set of 12 core values. Each value seeks to push our organization -- and the individuals who make it up -- to engage with the world critically, with compassion, and through a solid set of principles. Our core values are:

GOALS 

Our organizational values drive everything we do - campaigns we participate in, actions that we take, and the communications that we put out. This includes the goals that we map out to meet as an organization. 

The DC Anti-Violence Project operates through the coordination and collaboration of eight main teams. Each team is working toward a number of organizational and mission-driven goals. We believe in thinking big and staying accountable to the community: This page will allow you to stay up-to-date on the progress we've made, learn about ways you can plug in, and provide feedback to our group.

 

Communications and Social Media

Managing DC AVP’s online presence, building the organization’s reputation in the community, and driving online and traditional media campaigns relevant to DC AVP’s mission. Get involved

Membership

Building DC AVP’s membership, tracking members, encouraging participation in AVP projects and distributing meeting notes/agendas to keep membership active and involved. Get involved 

Outreach and Community Partnerships

Maintaining outreach to community organizations, building out community partnerships that strengthen DC AVP’s ability to carry out its mission, and identifying opportunities for DC AVP’s support in the wider local organizing community. Get involved 

Policy and Advocacy

Understanding policies that will ultimately address violence, practices and social rules that make LGBTQ people and communities vulnerable to violence; researching potential solutions, supporting already-formulated solutions and providing advocacy where needed. Get involved 

Events

Planning and executing DC AVP events, such as Taking the Stage, and creating events responsive to community needs. This can also include fundraising events, in partnership with the Finance Team. Get involved 

Victim Advocacy and MPD Liaison

Advocating for survivors of violence and amplifying the voices of survivors and advocates, including acting as a liaison between survivors and MPD, on an as-needed and as-requested basis. This Team will be the primary contact between the MPD LGBTQ Liaison Unit and DC AVP for general matters. Get involved 

Education and Empowerment

Building skills that enable survivors to prevent and heal from violence, including running mental health advocacy and an anti-violence “Youth Ambassador” program. Get involved 

Finance

Managing and tracking DC AVP’s finances, budgeting with other Teams and general AVP membership for the year, and planning fundraising initiatives. Get involved
